Jerusalem Post Says Trump to Recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s Capital

By Julio Severo
U.S. President Donald Trump may formally recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital early next week and direct his staff to prepare for moving the embassy to Jerusalem, said the Jerusalem Post.
Days ago, U.S. Vice President Mike Pence said that Trump was “actively considering” the step.
“While for the past 20 years, Congress and successive administrations have expressed a willingness to move our embassy, as we speak, President Donald Trump is actively considering when and how to move the American Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem,” Pence said at an event celebrating the 70th anniversary of the UN vote on the Partition Plan.
Trump pledged repeatedly during his campaign to move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. But his administration has postponed the possible fulfilment of this pledge. Bush and Obama had also made the same pledge.
Muslims threaten an uproar and violent unrest if Trump fulfills his pledge. Besides, the decision faces significant resistance from neocons, who say that moving the U.S. embassy in Israel would pose a grave danger to the many American U.S. military bases in the Middle East and Muslim nations.
For thousands of years, Jerusalem has been a Jewish city and Israel’s capital. By recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, Trump would correct a historic injustice of the U.S. foreign policy, which has promised many times to make such recognition, but it has never fulfilled it.
According to the Jerusalem Post, if “Trump formally recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, he is likely to make clear that the recognition is only of west Jerusalem in order to keep the final status of the entire city something to be determined in negotiations. Russia announced in April that it recognizes west Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, becoming the first country in the world to do so.”
Russia did much better than most nations by recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. But the Russian recognition was partial. Only West Jerusalem was recognized. In retribution, should Israel recognize only West Moscow as Russia’s capital?
Even though many Christian websites are rejoicing that at last the United States, under Trump, will recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, the Jerusalem Post made it clear that the recognition will be partial. Only West Jerusalem will be recognized.
In retribution, should Israel recognize only West Washington DC as America’s capital?
Why is so hard for America, the largest Protestant Christian nation in the world and the only superpower in the world, to recognize what the Bible and history so clearly recognize?
