Christianity in New York Yesterday and Today
By Julio
Severo
Today, public display of symbols of the
Christian faith is a scandal in the U.S., especially in New York City. But it
was not always so. And a picture of New York City just before Easter 1956
proves that American citizens were not ashamed to publicly show they were
Christians.
New York in 1956 |
The picture shows buildings with lights
forming the cross.
“Huge crosses, formed by lighted windows,
blaze above New York’s skyline as part of an Easter display in Manhattan’s
financial district”, according to Snopes.
This scene, photographed from the roof of the
Municipal Building, features 150-foot-high crosses in important commercial
buildings.
Note that this picture was originally
published on March 31, 1956, just days before Easter, which was on April 1.
This means that before Easter New York City and its most important buildings
were already celebrating Jesus Christ.
Whoever took the picture never imagined
that the U.S. would move from a nation that respected Christianity to a nation
that denies its Christian roots. And he also did not imagine that the lights of
the New York buildings would one day celebrate homosexuality.
Today, left-wingers get furious when
Christians use their shops to express their faith in Christ. But they are very
happy when major stores light up their buildings with the colors of the
homosexual agenda.
One World Trade Center honoring sodomy |
New York replaced Jesus with sodomy.
The U.S. is changing. In the 1950s, about
70 percent of the American population was Protestant. Today, it’s almost 50
percent. In New York, it’s 40 percent.
