The Nazification of the
Esoteric Right in Brazil
By Julio Severo
Ministers and evangelical leaders, angry
with the policies that past leftist administrations imposed in Brazil, seek to
attack this extreme by appealing to another extreme that they see as a
solution.
Sara Winter, adherent of Olavo de Carvalho |
This another extreme are individuals
linked to the astrologer Olavo de Carvalho, who surfed in the
victory that evangelicals gave to President Jair Bolsonaro in the 2018 election.
Although Carvalho’s shrewdness can
convince that he has the solution to everything, all the solutions that Bolsonaro
chose by his indication resulted in disaster.
Brazil’s
top culture official was fired on
January 17, 2020 after using phrases used by Hitler’s right-hand man, Joseph
Goebbels, Nazi Germany’s minister of propaganda. This authority was an adherent of
Carvalho.
One of the heroines of Carvalho is Sara
Winter, which is the Portuguese form of “Sarah Winter,” a British Nazi
supporter and member of the British Union of Fascists.
In a video of May 27, 2020, Sara said she
would wish to punch a minister of the Supreme Court and stated that this
minister “will never have peace in life again.” She said:
You wait for me, Mr. Alexandre de Moraes. You
will never have peace in your life again. We will make your life a hell, we are
going to discover the places that you go to, we will find out who are the
domestic employees who work for you… we will discover everything from your life
until you ask to leave. Today you took the worst decision of your life.
Sara Winter is leader from the self-appointed
group “300 from Brazil,” who camped in front of Brazil’s Supreme Court. The
group, whose members wear camouflaged clothing similar to army clothes and
carries weapons, has already been called “Armed Militia” by the Public Ministry
of the Federal District and Territories.
Winter was trained in Ukraine by groups of
George Soros.
If Winter were in the U.S. and had
threatened a judge of the U.S. Supreme Court, the consequences would not be small.
She confused free speech with freedom to threaten. Even so, Carvalho raised her
as a supreme right-wing example.
Olavo de Carvalho often curses the
Ministers of Brazil’s Supreme Court of “s*it” and other dirty words. But even
living in the U.S. since 2005, he never cursed the justices of the U.S. Supreme
Court.
To the Brazilian military, Carvalho also
reserves the dirtiest terms, but his alleged courage evaporates when he talks
about the American military who support socialist Joe Biden. Carvalho refuses
to treat the American military in the same way that he treats the Brazilian
military. The reason is very obvious: Americans are relentless in the
punishment of those who confuse free speech with freedom to swear.
Carvalho’s adherents imitate him in
everything, from swearing to hypocrisy. Allan
dos Santos became known in Brazil for cursing the Supreme Court ministers. He
fled to the U.S., but he does not dare to treat the U.S. Supreme Court justices
the way he treated the ministers of Brazil’s Supreme Court. The reasons can
be two: or the justices of the U.S. Supreme Court are saint and honest, or
Allan is very afraid to be caught by the American law.
Despite all these inconsistencies,
hypocrisies and swearing, many Christians see Sara Winter, Olavo de Carvalho
and Allan dos Santos as “reference.” The Bible is not enough reference for
them. They want an ideology to chase communists.
They barely know that one of the brands of
Nazism was exactly to hunt communists. Nazis hunted communists on the streets.
They beat communists. They killed communists.
Christians without reference and
historical knowledge end up repeating the history.
One of the most patent nazifications that
Carvalho put in the Bolsonaro administration is the Minister of Foreign
Affairs, Ernesto
Araújo, who is a public fan of Julius Evola, who was a guru of the Italian
fascist dictator Benito Mussolini. Evola
wrote several books exalting the right-wing ideology and occultism. Not surprisingly,
his books were read and admired by the Nazis.
Brazil should be asking: how radicals are
becoming reference to Christians?
I can ask such questions because I know history.
Sara Winter, Olavo de Carvalho and Allan
dos Santos do not curse U.S. judges and military. They know that American law
works. But they think they have every right to curse and threaten Brazilian judges
and military men.
I do not agree with everything that judges
and military in Brazil and the U.S. do. I criticize them, without swearing. I
point out their mistakes, without threatening them. I behave this way because
the Bible is my reference.
If Christians begin to use as reference radicals
who curse and threaten, defending hunting communists, fatally Brazil will be
nazified.
Everything that Brazil needs for a nazification
is a Julius Evola, who was an adherent of the Islamic occultist René Guénon. By
coincidence, Brazil has its own version of Evola or Rasputin: Olavo de
Carvalho, who is Guénon’s adherent.
Brazil has three options:
The dirty left, who wants to hunt conservatives.
The
dirty right, who wants to hunt communists and sanitize the Inquisition, which
tortured and killed Jews and Protestants. Carvalho is obsessed with the
revisionism of the Inquisition.
Conservative Christianity, which can deliver
Brazil from the chaos caused by the left and esoteric right.
Ministers need to watch and pray, paying
attention to the signs of proselytism among their members, seeking to deliver
them from the two extremist forces and lead them to the Pastor Jesus who guides
us to the calm waters.
How will we, conservative Christians, preach
the Gospel to oppressed leftists if we embrace the extremist right-wing view that
leftists should be hunted?
We cannot confuse the Gospel with
political ideology. All political ideologies will pass away, but the Gospel
will never pass away. No political ideology is as powerful as the Gospel.
When a Christian sees politics as stronger
than the Gospel, the process of unconversion has begun in him.
With such awareness, pastors should strive
to dive their sheep into the Gospel, not on the left and not in the political
occultism of Julius Evola and Olavo de Carvalho.
We must be very clear: the esoteric right
of Brazil has nothing to do with conservative Christianity and sooner or later
can become a powerful ally of the left against Christian values, especially the
Christian defense against predatory homosexuality.
