Brazilian televangelist Silas Malafaia calls Olavo de Carvalho a coward and bankrupt astrologer after Olavo threatened to topple Bolsonaro administration

By Julio Severo
In a tweet of June 7, 2020, Brazilian televangelist Silas Malafaia called Olavo de Carvalho, a self-exiled Brazilian immigrant in the U.S., a coward and a bankrupt astrologer. Malafaia said:
“A CHALLENGE TO OLAVO DE CARVALHO! You are a bankrupt astrologer. Who are you to overthrow a government? You are unable even to knock down a building manager. Hiding in America, what do you want Bolsonaro to defend you from? COWARD! You keep talking away and making stupid accusations. JUST KKKKK.”
Malafaia, who is pastor and president of the Victory in Christ Assemblies of God, is an ally of the President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro. Malafaia’s strong tweet was in defense of Bolsonaro against Olavo’s demonic attacks.
Malafaia’s strong reaction came after Olavo de Carvalho, who is considered the Rasputin of President Jair Bolsonaro, released a video attacking the president and threatening to overthrow his government.
In the video, Olavo curses the Bolsonaro administration and accuses Bolsonaro that he has done nothing to use the state machine to persecute people on the Internet who criticize Olavo’s words and opinions. This complaint is not new, since shortly after Bolsonaro’s inauguration in 2019, Olavo called for the Federal Police to investigate me, Julio Severo, for the “crime” of opinions that I have against his defense of the Inquisition. Olavo considers my opinion against the Inquisition a crime.
In his melodramatic and even possessed video, Olavo complains that he has no support from the Bolsonaro administration. Some interpreted this complaint as Olavo's strategy to seek much more money from the federal government.
For Revista Fórum, Olavo is after a lot of money. The magazine said:
“The guru’s statements would have scared Luciano Hang, who got the president’s approval to raise funds and settle Olavo’s debts with the Justice. The goal is to raise at least R$ 2.8 million, an amount that the astrologer owes to singer Caetano Veloso. For that, Hang must mobilize other businessmen to participate in the donation.”
If this magazine is right, Olavo’s video threatening to topple the Bolsoanro administration was just tantrum and blackmail. Thus, Brazil sees itself hostage to a blackmailer who is capable of using any kind of threat to pluck money from anyone, from the government to businessmen.
According to the Correio Brasiliense, a member of the Planalto Palace [the official Brazilian presidential residence] informed that businessman Luciano Hang talked to Bolsonaro about the video in which Carvalho criticizes and attacks the president with profanity. The conclusion was that it is necessary to give a financial aid to the guru so that he can “settle down.” Both Bolsonaro and the businessman were surprised by Carvalho’s aggression, who is idolized by the president’s children, especially Eduardo Bolsonaro. The excuse found by Hang to raise the money to shut up Carvalho is that he continues to “work for Brazil.” But behind this benevolent action is the fear that the guru will disrupt the support base for Bolsonaro on social media.
Correio Braziliense added:
It remains to be seen whether the businessmen are willing to enter the kitty headed by Hang. Carvalho wants much more than the R$ 2.8 million he needs to pay for a lawsuit he lost to singer Caetano Veloso. “It is not any amount that Olavo de Carvalho wants. This can be measured by the size of his aggressiveness in the video.”
The guru of Bolsonaro supporters recorded a message complaining that he is isolated and that he never had support from the president. In the video, he says that he is being charged for “fines” and that he has no way to pay, as he has no money. The guru made it clear that he expected to be in a better financial position with Bolsonaro in the government.
What does it mean that he expected to be in a better financial position with Bolsonaro in the government? Did he expect to suck tax-payers?
It is strange for Olavo to claim that he has no money. His move to the U.S. was funded by a Brazilian large multi-million dollar contractor, who awarded him a large estate in the U.S. Later, Olavo managed to buy other properties in the U.S. There is a Freedom of Information Act in the U.S., which could perhaps duly clarify how many properties Olavo has in the U.S. and prove definitively whether he is as poor as he claims to be.
All this effort by Luciano Hang to gather businessmen to raise a multimillionaire fund to fill Olavo’s pockets is to calm Olavo down and stop him from threatening the government.
What does that remind me of? Leftist groups threaten to overthrow the government and only settle down when they receive money from the government and businessmen. Unfortunately, this parallel is not far from Olavo's reality.
Shortly after Hang and other businessmen pledged to send millions to Olavo’s account, he changed the tone. He abandoned the hysterical and demonic speech of overthrow of the Bolsonaro administration and said: “I am still on Bolsonaro’s side. I will fight for him with all my weapons.”
Nothing like a few million dollars to calm down the head of a demonized astrologer.
