An Undercover Agent of the Inquisition in Brazil’s Ministry of Education?
By Julio
Severo
A rather mysterious revelation has shown
that an advocate of the Inquisition is working within of Brazil’s Ministry of
Education.
In a 6 March 2019 tweet, a user said,
“The
book of professor Ricardo da Costa, who is now working for the government of
the president @jairbolsonaro at INEP, needs everyone’s contribution to be
published! ‘Visions of the Middle Ages,’ with an unpublished article on the
Inquisition and much more.”
Ricardo da Costa himself confirmed the
message by sharing it.
The presence of Costa in INEP, which is a
division of the Brazilian Ministry of Education, is a total contradiction of the
alleged mission of President Jair Bolsonaro, who had promised to remove
ideological indoctrination from the Brazilian government, especially from its
education.
While the mission of the Ministry of
Education is to educate, Costa’s mission has been “educate” people on the
alleged benefits of the Inquisition. At the same time that Costa is working in
this ministry, he is launching his book on the Inquisition. He is an ideologist
of the Inquisition.
On Facebook, Costa was involved in the “Study
Group on the Inquisition with Professor Ricardo da Costa.” In addition to
defending the Inquisition in internet articles, Costa is the author of the
foreword to the Brazilian book “The True History of the Inquisition,” which
seeks to sanitize the image of this murderous machine.
In an interview to Terça Livre, an internet
channel of adherents of Brazilian astrologer Olavo de Carvalho, he explained
that the Inquisition gave rise to the procedural legal system and that before it
trials were summary.
Such information would seem interesting to
people having no knowledge of history, but many centuries before the Inquisition,
Apostle Paul was judged by Roman courts and his process took years. There was
no summary judgement or execution. Paul had plenty of time to preach the Gospel
while his process was in progress. So Costa’s information is a blatant lie.
Besides,
Paul would have preferred to die for Jesus than killing for Jesus. Essentially,
the Inquisition killed misusing the name of Jesus, to protect the religious,
political and financial interests of the Catholic Church.
Costa
has no support from the Apostle Paul and the New Testament to defend the
Inquisition.
Jews, who were the main victims of the
Inquisition, would not agree with Costa. Protestants, who were also victims,
would agree with the Jews.
The Inquisition also operated in Brazil by
torturing and killing Jews. The Inquisition was only stopped in Brazil by pressure
of England, in the early 1800s, which did not want its travelling sailors and
officials executed because they were Protestant.
Today, there is a Museum of the
Inquisition in Brazil and one
of the Brazilian states, Pernambuco, has a date of remembrance of the Jews who
were victims of the Inquisition.
With the election of Jair Bolsonaro, there
was the hope that the Ministry of Education could, at last, include officially in
the Brazilian history the persecution of the Jews under the Inquisition. It is
an undisputable fact that the Inquisition tortured and killed Brazilian Jews.
It is an undisputable fact also that Jair
Bolsonaro was elected especially by evangelicals, who are so supportive of the
Jews that they want Bolsonaro to move the Brazilian embassy to Jerusalem. And
there was gratitude — from Israel. In his first visit to Brazil to attend the
inauguration of Bolsonaro, Israeli
Prime Minister said that evangelicals are the best friends of Israel.
In his campaign, Bolsonaro actually said
that the embassy’s move was fundamental, but now with the presidency firmly in
his grip, he has made remarks suggesting that such move is not so important.
Was
the evangelical vote important or not for him? It was so important that in
2016, while evangelical leaders were impeaching
socialist president Dilma Rousseff, Bolsonaro, who is nominally
Catholic, was in Israel being baptized by a Pentecostal minister in the Jordan
River. In spite of the shining appearances, he was not converted to
evangelicalism or Pentecostalism. His baptism was just a political ploy to draw
evangelicals. It worked.
Yet, today the highest-level posts in his
administration are in the hands not of evangelicals who supported him. They are
in the hands of adherents of Carvalho,
who even though a self-exiled immigrant in the U.S., is the most prominent
advocate of the Inquisition in Brazil.
Evangelicals have been betrayed by
political opportunism.
Surely, the current Ministry of Education
has made efforts to remove Marxism. This is a good goal. Yet, the new minister,
Ricardo Velez, is known not only as an adherent of Carvalho and enemy of
Marxism, but as unfriendly to Trump. You can see this article: New
Brazilian Education Minister: Hostile to Socialism and Trump, Friendly with
Bolsonaro and Hillary
The good news is that at last the
Brazilian Ministry of Education is allowing homeschooling, but individuals
appointed to run its administration are also adherents of Carvalho, and all of
them have few years of homeschool experience. And all of them believe and
proclaim that the Inquisition promoted human rights and did not torture and
kill Jews and Protestants.
I have been fighting for homeschooling in
Brazil for over 20 years and my fight has been published in Brazil and other nations.
In fact, I have published the first homeschool book in Brazil, The Way Home, by
Mary Pride.
Rinaldo Belisário, a Baptist minister and
specialist in education, has over 25 years of homeschool experience and he has
even a homeschooling curriculum. Yet, Bolsonaro, who was elected by
evangelicals, rejected evangelicals with large and old experience on
homeschooling and appointed advocates of the Inquisition with much ideological
militancy, but little experience on real homeschooling.
I have fought against Marxism in Brazil
for decades, especially because of its opposition to homeschooling. But to mix
homeschooling with the advocacy of the Inquisition is the Nazification of a
good idea. I use the term Nazi because both Nazism and the Inquisition were
engaged in persecuting, torturing and killing the Jews.
Let
us not be deceived: Nazism also fought Marxism, and most Jews Hitler killed were Marxist.
But Nazism’s anti-Marxism was occult
in nature. Carvalho’s anti-Marxism is also occult
in nature.
Did
I fight so hard against Marxism occupying a throne in the Ministry of Education
to see it now being occupied by revisionists of the Inquisition who embrace an
anti-Marxist occultism?
