Why do we hate Putin more than Islamic terrorists?

Why do we hate Putin more than Islamic terrorists?

William Murray
Sen. John McCain took an incredible trip to Kiev earlier this year, and before a mob that included neo-Nazis, he called for the ouster of the democratically elected government of Ukraine. He was not alone, as members of the Obama administration also moved to replace the elected government of that nation. With the help and encouragement of Western powers, eventually the elected government was replaced by those representing the mobs.
John McCain with Ukrainian neo-Nazi Oleh Tiahnybok
Who are the Ukrainians who overthrew their democratically elected government? Perhaps Republicans should take a close look at these new leaders before patting President Obama on the back for “defeating” Putin and “winning” Ukraine for America.
CNN in the U.S. was silent about this, but a CNN International report stated:
“The leader of Svoboda (or ‘Freedom’), Oleh Tyahnybok, is on record saying that Kiev is governed by ‘a Jewish-Russian mafia’ and has said Ukrainians bravely fought Muscovites, Germans, Jews ‘and other scum’ in World War II.
“This unsavory constituency, including the ‘ultra’ Right Sector movement, manned the barricades in the Kiev uprising, providing ‘security’ to the mainstream political opposition leaders and matching the pro-government forces in violent tactics that led to the dozens of dead in and around the Maidan.
“These rightist-nationalist forces were in large part responsible for the collapse of the agreement signed in February that called for early parliamentary and presidential elections and a return to the 2004 Ukrainian constitution, which harks back to the ‘Orange Revolution’ that brought a pro-West government to power in Ukraine.”
Oleh Tiahnybok
Ukrainian Rabbi Moshe Reuven Azman called on Kiev’s Jews to leave. “I told my congregation to leave the city center or the city altogether and if possible the country, too,” Rabbi Azman told Maariv. “I don’t want to tempt fate,” he added, “but there are constant warnings concerning intentions to attack Jewish institutions.”
A free democratic nation such as the United States should not be in the business of supporting mobs bent on overthrowing the elected leaders of a nation regardless of how distasteful that government may be to us. There are now NO elected officials in charge at any level in Ukraine, and both the Democrats and the Republicans are praising this fact! Secretary of State John Kerry even went to Kiev to lay flowers at a memorial to the mob that overthrew the government. The self-declared prime minister of Ukraine, whom President Obama has declared the “legitimate” ruler of that nation, visited the White House this week.
Meanwhile President Vladimir Putin of Russia is cast as an evil villain and blood-thirsty madman by the American media and politicians of both parties. Often, to demonize him they point out that he was once head of the old KGB (note that our own President George H.W. Bush once headed the CIA). In reality, Putin actually presided over the dismantling and reform of the old KGB.
Putin may be no Easter bunny, but he is a far better man and a far better human being than the fascist monarchs the United States supports in Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Let’s remember that we are arming and supporting Islamic nations that stone people to death, have zero human rights and hold no elections at all, such as Saudi Arabia.
King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia is an insult to all of humanity, yet Barack Obama bowed to him on a visit to that nation. But in Ukraine, with the support of Republicans, Obama has sent two Air Force Groups and naval missile cruisers to the Baltics to threaten Christian Russia. Obama’s warning to Putin basically is this: “Don’t you dare interfere with the mobs that overthrew the elected government of Ukraine.” I have seen a lot here in Washington, but this is really nuts.
The attacks on Russia and Putin began before the Olympic Games in Sochi and have escalated over the issue of Ukraine. I was actually ashamed of conservative outlets such as Fox News that salivated over one overrunning toilet that was found by an Associated Press photographer at the Sochi games. (Apparently, no toilet has ever overflowed in Western Europe or the United States.)
Why do President Obama and the Western media have such hatred for Russia? What is all the Russia bashing really about?
In Russia the clergy are allowed to enter the schools to give instruction in the Bible. Prayer is allowed in the public schools in Russia, as well. It is against the law to sell or give pornographic literature to anyone under the age of 18. Marriage in Russia is allowed only between one man and one woman.
Last year President Putin signed a law outlawing advertisements for abortion. In 2011 Russia passed a law requiring health warnings to women before getting an abortion, and now the Duma is considering outlawing abortions completely unless the mother is in immediate danger of death. (In the old Soviet Union, abortion was the primary means of birth control).
There is no complicated tax code in Russia; they have the kind of flat tax the Republicans have pushed in the U.S. for years. In Russia everyone pays the 13 percent income tax regardless of how much they earn. The year after this flat tax was instituted in 2001, the Russian economy took off like a rocket and tax revenues increased as well. Russia is not a communist country any longer. Russia has as many or maybe even more millionaires than the United States. There is free enterprise; anyone can start a business, and many people do.
In the Russian Army the chaplains are allowed to preach the Gospel and pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Homosexual behavior is not allowed in the Russian military and punishable by court martial. (The U.S. military just held its first officially approved drag queen contest at the Kadena Air Base.)
Why do Barack Obama and the liberal media hate Russia so much but have such love for nations that are anti-Christian and repressive such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia? Morally and spiritually, Russia today is the nation America was in the 1950s.
William J. Murray is the chairman of the Washington, D.C.-based Religious Freedom Coalition and the author of seven books including "My Life Without God," which chronicles his early life in the home of destructive atheist and Marxist leader Madalyn Murray O'Hair. Having lived the Marxist and the Ayn Rand lifestyle, he has a unique perspective on religion and politics.

Israeli Gov’t: Evangelicals Should Shun “Christ at the Checkpoint”

Israeli Gov’t: Evangelicals Should Shun “Christ at the Checkpoint”

David Lazarus
Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has issued a last-minute statement suggesting Christians steer clear of the “Christ at the Checkpoint” (CatC) conference that opens tomorrow (Monday) in Palestinian-held Bethlehem. The statement, which came in response to an investigative inquiry by Israel Today, regards the CatC conference as a serious long-term threat to Israel’s security.
In a personal correspondence with Israel Today, an MFA official said that “unfortunately, we well know about the [Christ at the Checkpoint] conference,” explaining that for the Israeli government, the event “is particularly problematic, because it is designed for the evangelical Christian leadership – an extremely important audience to us.”
The official provided statement from the MFA is as follows:
“The attempt to use religious motifs in order to mobilize political propaganda and agitate the feelings of the faithful through the manipulation of religion and politics is an unacceptable and shameful act. Using religion for the purpose of incitement in the service of political interests stains the person who does it with a stain of indelible infamy.”

“Using religion for incitement”

In this unprecedented advisory, the Israeli government has taken the dramatic step of warning Christians that an Evangelical Christian event is “using religion for the purpose of incitement.” The Israeli government issued the warning as it became clear that Palestinian evangelicals at CatC are misusing Christian teachings to inflame anti-Israeli passions. Government officials are concerned that the “blame Israel” propaganda coming out of events like CatC ultimately serves, even if unintentionally, to encourage violence and stir up even more radical Islamic terror.
The Israeli government recognizes that depicting Christ suffering at the Bethlehem checkpoint under the heavy-booted and trigger-happy Jews is just the type of religion-fueled imagery that has in years past resulted in the worst kind of Christian anti-Semitism.

“Stains the person with indelible infamy”

When the government of Israel needs to put out an official warning about a group of evangelical Christians saying that they are “stained with indelible infamy,” they mean business. The government of Israel has made it clear that those who participate in this type of religious manipulation to incitement are marked, both figuratively, and as a focus of further action on the part of the authorities in Jerusalem.
“We have already actively targeted specific participants in the conference, as well as leaders of the groups who will attend the event, in a coordinated effort to expose them to our side of the story,” the MFA told Israel Today.
Furthermore, the government has indicated that it considers certain people involved in CatC to have a reputation for being involved in malicious acts against the state. For example, it was recently revealed that some of the leading figures at CatC have very close ties to the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement that aims to delegitimize and ultimately to undermine entirely the Jewish state. (See the Bethlehem Call, which was co-authored by one of the CatC organizers and is linked to from the conference’s website)

Evangelical Friend or Foe?

That Jerusalem is so aware and concerned about CatC should be encouraging news to Evangelical Christians around the world. The government of Israel finds them “an extremely important audience,” and the goal of the conference is clearly to drive a wedge between Christians and the State of Israel. Christians around the world should continue to heed the government’s call to distance themselves from the dangerous and politically-motivated propaganda of Christ at the Checkpoint.

US wants to combat anti-homosexuality movement worldwide

US wants to combat anti-homosexuality movement worldwide

By Julio Severo
The Associated Press reported on February 26 that the United States, “troubled” by an anti-homosexuality movement in Uganda and across much of the world, is launching a new effort to combat what Secretary of State John Kerry described as a “threat to human rights.”
Comparing a Ugandan anti-homosexuality law to oppressive government crackdowns on German Jews in the 1930s, Kerry said that according to the AP report, he was going to direct American ambassadors to look at “how we deal with this human rights challenge on a global basis.” He said 80 nations worldwide have anti-homosexuality laws on some levels, and he called the one in Uganda — which does not apply capital punishment — “atrocious” and “flat out morally wrong.”
Now, in the definition of the US government, anti-homosexuality movements (groups opposing gay “marriage” and other homosexual perversions) are a “threat,” because US officials see the homosexual behavior as a noble “human right.”
Do “human rights” rape and kill? They did so in Uganda. According to Scott Lively, in the past the African nation had a law that required all men and boys in Uganda to submit to the homosexual seduction of its ruler, King Mwanga. By official count 22 young men were executed under this law.
When Ugandans began to convert to Christianity in the 1800s, a group of Catholics led by Charles Lwanga refused to allow themselves to be sodomized by the King. Enraged, King Mwanga had them torturously bound, marched 37 miles and then roasted alive in a fire pit. The date of their execution was June 3rd, 1886, and is today a national holiday commemorating Uganda’s rejection of homosexuality and commitment to Christian values.

So it should be no surprise, according to Lively, that modern Ugandans are very unhappy that homosexual political activists from Europe and the United States are working aggressively to re-homosexualize their nation.
To compare an anti-homosexuality law in Uganda to oppressive government crackdowns on German Jews in the 1930s is immoral, cynical, and opportunistic. According to the book The Pink Swastika, German Jews suffered crackdowns from a mostly homosexual Nazi government elite. The comparison would be appropriate if Kerry had condemned political, economic and diplomatic crackdowns on Uganda and other poor because of their laws protecting their societies against homosexual threats.
It is very easy to use Uganda in preposterous comparisons that serve the purpose of immoral propaganda on behalf of the Western pro-homosexuality imperialism. Uganda has no power to resist the haughty Western nations. And now Uganda is under a Western blackmail: if it does not repel its anti-homosexuality law, its poor population will not receive foreign assistance, which will instead be directed to “human rights” groups.
It is very easy also for the US and European officials to chastise Russia for its law protecting children from homosexual propaganda. Russia is not Uganda, but it is a regional power that represents no significant threat to the pro-homosexuality superpower. Besides, Russia represents no financial advantage for the Western powers. It has no massive investments in Western banks.
What you will not see is the US and European officials condemning Saudi Arabia, whose Textbooks for Islamic Studies, officially used by the Saudi Ministry of Education, say:
“Homosexuality is one of the most disgusting sins and greatest crimes.... It is a vile perversion that goes against sound nature, and is one of the most corrupting and hideous sins.... The punishment for homosexuality is death… [the perpetrator] is to be burned with fire. It has also been said that he should be stoned, or thrown from a high place.”
Have you heard Kerry say “atrocious” and “flat out morally wrong” at some point? Can you see America “troubled” by an anti-homosexuality movement in Saudi Arabia and launching the first effort to combat it? Can you hear the US government describing anti-homosexuality laws in Saudi Arabia as a “threat to human rights”?
If America does it, I can overhear American bankers and Wall Street growling and yelling with pain.
Saudi Arabia treats homosexuality much worse than Uganda does and receives no condemnation. The difference is: Uganda receives assistance money from the Western powers; Saudi Arabia has massive investments in big Western corporations and banks.
America just does not touch Saudi Arabia. When Muslim terrorists mostly from Saudi Arabia attacked the US in 9/11, in return the US invaded Iraq (the enemy of the Saudis and an ally of Russia).
Some years ago, a homosexual from Saudi Arabia had his asylum request denied by the US government. Obviously, the US government has no interest in asylum seekers from Islamic nations as Saudi Arabia, which brazenly kill homosexuals. But let a homosexual Russian request asylum by alleging that he was denied his “human rights” when the anti-propaganda law in Russia prohibited him from having access to children.
If Uganda were Saudi Arabia, it could in the Saudi way treat homosexuality whatever way it wished, unopposed and without worry, and America would turn a blind eye.
If it were Saudi Arabia, Russia could similarly kill homosexuals, under the same American blind eye. Because Russia is not Saudi Arabia, even Google felt free to mock Russians by putting homosexual symbols in its website to directly confront Russia during Sochi Olympics. Its mockery was aimed at the Russian law banning gay propaganda to children.
“Google has made a clear and unequivocal statement that Russia’s anti-LGBT discrimination is indefensible,” said Human Rights Campaign President Chad Griffin, whose Washington-based gay group has been lobbying American corporations to condemn the Russian law (whose punishment is fines, not death) signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin in July.
Can you visualize a similar campaign against the Saudis, who do not fine, but kill homosexuals?
The US government also mocked Russians. Obama did not go to Sochi and made sure that the world understood his decision: he sent prominent gay athletes to Sochi. He showed no interest in Russian children and their well-being and protection. His only worry was to show support to the gay agenda. In fact, this is the top priority of his foreign policy. Homosexuality first, children later…
The global anti-homosexuality movement, defined by Kerry as a “threat” to “human rights,” would never be a threat if, as Saudi Arabia does, it had massive investments in the US, even if its pro-family campaigns were aimed at killing homosexuals, just as Saudi Arabia does.
Will the effort by the US government to combat the global anti-homosexuality movement bother Saudi investors and killers?
The US combat is an ongoing effort to grant voice and power to gay supremacists and silence their opponents. In 2011, WND reported,
“The Obama administration has announced it intends to make the United States the global sex cop, with plans to try to intervene in the workings of other nations where homosexuality is not promoted as well as plans to create special provisions for homosexuals and those with other lifestyle choices to gain special admittance to the U.S.”
And in 2013, according to the Family Research Council, “The Washington Blade, D.C.’s gay newspaper, praised the Obama administration for creating an army of international lobbyists for same-sex ‘marriage,’ anti-discrimination laws, and homosexual ‘rights’ around the world.”
To advance gay “marriage” and other noble “human rights,” the US government is determined to combat the anti-homosexuality movement around the world, including in Uganda and Russia. The Saudis and other Muslim investors? They have always had special exemption from whatever ideological and homosexual imperialism America imposes on everybody else.
Let Muslim terrorists from Saudi Arabia attack America, and America will attack everybody, except the Saudis. And as a proof of her loyalty, America will have a CIA director converted to Islam in Saudi Arabia! (In 2013, WND reported that the current CIA director John Brennan had an Islamic conversion in Saudi Arabia.)
Let Saudi Arabia kill homosexuals, and America will condemn everybody else, including Russia, which has no law for killing homosexuals.
Whatever insanity Muslim extremists in Saudi Arabia do, America will blame and chastise everybody else, especially conservative Christians.
If the pro-homosexuality, pro-Saudi America which wants to be a global cop against conservative Christians is not a Babylon (sheer confusion), then what is she?

Putin Doesn’t Threaten Our National Security, Obama Does

Putin Doesn’t Threaten Our National Security, Obama Does

Don Feder
Vladimir Putin isn’t the Easter Bunny. On the other hand, he isn’t Joseph Stalin. It takes a truly fevered imagination to see Russian forces in the Crimea as a prelude to Russian tanks rolling across Europe toward Berlin and Paris.
Putin is a power player who cares more about Russia’s national interests, and Russian minorities in his near abroad, than in that mythical force known as world opinion. Would that America had a president who cared more about our interests than in promoting globalism and the left’s social agenda.
The Crimea’s population is 60% ethnic Russian. For most of the past 800 years, the Ukraine has been Russian.
An independent Ukraine disappeared in the 12th century. It reappeared briefly after the Bolshevik Revolution, only to be crushed by the Red Army and not emerge again until the fall of the Soviet Union. All of this fuss about the “territorial integrity” of a state born yesterday.
The Russian-backed government in Kiev came to power democratically, but was ousted by the Maidan mob. We’re told that the interim government is pro-Western and pro-EU.
When Reagan was president, the expression pro-Western meant something. It meant pro-representative government, pro-human rights and pro-Western (Judeo-Christian) values.
Today, it means a willingness to accept same-sex “marriage,” abortion on demand, an anti-religion ethos – the agenda of the EU’s cultural commissars  -- and the economic dictates of the Brussels bureaucracy.
Putin doesn’t want to see the EU -- and, possibly, NATO --- on his doorstep. Do you blame him? If someone overthrew a democratically elected, pro-American government in Ottawa and replaced it with an interim regime hostile to our interests, that contained neo-Nazi elements and which immediately moved against English-speaking Canadians, it would irritate us too. It would, that is, if there was an American in the White House.
But don’t I care about a possible Russian annexation of the Crimea and Eastern Ukraine (with its Russian-oriented, Orthodox population), conservatives who are still fighting the Cold War ask me? Not really. I’ll tell you what does concern me:
Obama’s hollowing out of our military -- Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel announced plans to slash the army’s active-duty personnel by at least another 70,000. Some support aircraft and cruisers are also slated for mothballs. The Marine Corps will lose 8,000 of the few/the proud. In 2013, defense spending was 4% of GDP -- taking us to pre-Pearl Harbor levels. The president doesn’t think we need a military, just a marker for drawing red lines.
Obama’s life style-friendly military -- If Putin doesn’t take us seriously, is it any wonder? The headline in the March 2 Stars and Stripes beams: “Gay, lesbian troops perform in drag at Kadena Air Base” in Okinawa. The publication disclosed that the drag show was “in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered troops.” Doubtless, this will do much for the morale of the non-LGBT troops. But as then-Army Chief of Staff George W. Casey, Jr. said at the time of the Ft. Hood massacre (which the administration still refuses to call a terrorist incident), diversity is the New Action Army’s most important product. Perhaps we could deploy an elite unit, armed with vibrators, to the Crimea to counter Spetsnaz commandos.
Muslims in the Obama White House -- including Arif Alikhan (Deputy Executive Director for Policy in DHS), Mohamed Elibiary (Homeland Security Advisory Council), Rashad Hussain (Special Envoy to the deeply anti-Semitic Organization of the Islamic Conference), Imam Mohamed Magid  (Obama’s Sharia Law advisor, on loan from the Islamic Society of North America, with its Brotherhood ties) and Eboo Patel (on the Advisory Council on Faith-Based Neighborhood Partnerships). A Muslim who takes his religion seriously must put loyalty to Dar al-Islam above allegiance to an infidel state.
The suicide pact Obama and Kerry are determined to force on Israel -- Israel’s Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu arrived in the U.S. Monday to the administration’s threats. If Israel doesn’t participate in a negotiated surrender (leading to Jihadistan on its borders), Washington won’t be able to contain the “international fallout,” the White House warned. Unlike the Ukraine, Israel’s territorial integrity is in our national interest, as our only friend in a region with a lot of people determined to destroy us.
Obama’s metastasizing autocracy -- We fret about democracy in the Ukraine while Obama treats the Constitution as a series of suggestions. For the president, the three branches of government are him, his pen and his telephone.
Putin is a strong man. Obama is a weak man (except when it comes to bullying our allies). Obama venerates multilateralism. Putin is willing to go it alone. Obama is committed to the entire LGBT agenda (including gay “marriage”). He’s also the only sitting president to address Planned Parenthood, such is his commitment to abortion without borders. Putin believes the foregoing is the road to national annihilation.

Russia’s Right Turn

Russia’s Right Turn

Moscow has reclaimed its 19th-century conservative role

William S. Lind
An unfortunate legacy of the Cold War is the negative attitude some American conservatives yet harbor toward Russia. Conditioned for decades to see Russia and the Soviet Union as synonymous, they still view post-communist Russia as a threat. They forget that Tsarist Russia was the most conservative great power, a bastion of Christian monarchy loathed by revolutionaries, Jacobins, and democrats. Joseph de Maistre was not alone among 19th-century conservatives in finding refuge and hope in Russia.
Under President Vladimir Putin, Russia is emerging once more as the leading conservative power. As we witnessed in Russia’s rescue of President Obama from the corner into which he had painted himself on Syria, the Kremlin is today, as the New York Times reports, “Establishing Russia’s role in world affairs not based on the dated Cold War paradigm but rather on its different outlook, which favors state sovereignty and status quo stability over the spread of Western-style democracy.”
In his own Times op-ed on Syria, Putin wrote, “It is alarming that military intervention in internal conflicts in foreign countries has become commonplace for the United States. Is it in America’s long-term interest? I doubt it.” Sen. Robert A. Taft and Russell Kirk also doubted it.
Moscow appears to understand better than Washington that the driving foreign-policy requirement of the 21st century is the preservation of the state in the face of Fourth Generation war waged by non-state entities, such as those fighting on the rebels’ side in Syria. Russia has rightly upbraided Washington for destroying states, including Iraq and Libya.
When Putin came to power following the chaotic Yeltsin years, there was a real possibility the Russian state itself would disintegrate. Putin’s greatest achievement, and the reason for his popularity within the country, is that he saved and strengthened the Russian state instead. Blinded by their worship of the clay god “Democracy,” Washington elites cannot perceive the importance of what Putin did, but conservatives should. Russia can be an effective ally against Fourth Generation entities, and conservatives prefer states to stateless anarchy. Russia’s new-old conservatism is evident not only in its foreign policy but at home as well. In September the Financial Times reported:
Vladimir Putin called on Russians to strengthen a new national identity based on conservative and traditional values such as the Orthodox church yesterday, warning that the west was facing a moral crisis. … Mr. Putin said Russia should avoid the example of European countries that were ‘going away from their roots’ by legalizing gay marriage and excessive ‘political correctness.’
“People in many European countries are ashamed and are afraid of talking about their religious convictions,” Putin is quoted as saying, with religious holidays “being taken away or called something else, shamefully hiding the essence of the holiday.”
“We need to respect the rights of minorities to be different,” he added, “but the rights of the majority should not be in question.” American conservatives can only dream of an American president saying such things. Should we not cheer a Russian president who dares to defy “political correctness?”
The world has turned upside down. America, condemning and even attacking other countries to push “democracy” and Jacobinical definitions of human rights, is becoming the leader of the international Left. Russia is reasserting her historic role as leader of the international Right. This is a reversal of historic importance. American foreign policy should be based on America’s interests, not on affinity for any foreign power. But putting America first does not require being hostile to Russia or anyone else. On the contrary: American conservatives should welcome the resurgence of a conservative Russia.

Sochi and The Left’s Human Rights Hypocrisy

Sochi and The Left’s Human Rights Hypocrisy

Don Feder
There should be an event at the Sochi Olympics where advocates posing as journalists, celebrity nitwits and politicians can compete to see who can wail the loudest and longest about the supposed horror of Russia's dreaded anti-gay law, while Pussy Riot plays in the background. Extra points will be awarded for absurd and offensive analogies to the Holocaust.
Western gay groups protesting Putin over Russian law banning gay propaganda
In a February 7 commentary in USA Today, four Congressmen took a break from raising the national-debt limit to discuss their grave concern. "We are especially disturbed by the discriminatory practices in the Russian Federation regarding gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) persons." They vaguely allude to the nation's anti-propaganda law, which discourages promoting "non-traditional sexual relations," without explaining that it concerns attempts to indoctrinate children.
In an open letter to the British newspaper The Guardian, more than 200 "prominent international authors" lament the Russian law. "The chokehold that the Russian Federation has placed on freedom of expression is deeply worrying and needs to be addressed in order to bring about a healthy democracy in Russia," sniffs Salman Rushdie.
I thought when the duly elected representatives of the people passed a law by a vote of 436 to 0 (with one abstention) that was democracy in action. But, apparently, it's only democratic if Rushdie and his prominent international friends approve of the result.
And what would leftist hysteria be without Holocaust comparisons. "These new anti-gay laws are disturbingly similar to the anti-Semitic Nuremberg laws Hitler passed before the 1936 Olympics," raves CNN contributor LZ Granderson. The similarity exists only in LZ's fevered imagination.
In The Daily Mail, another Brit periodical, gay writer Andrew Pierce calls actor Stephen Fry's fondness for genocide analogies here "deranged in its lack of proportionality." Where are the death camps? Pierce asks. "Even more shamefully, Fry is downgrading the significance of the Holocaust by comparing it with a ban on gay pride marches."
During the communist-era, liberals told us we had to be understanding of Soviet eccentricities – like gulags. Now that Russia isn't red any more, relativism is out. Corporate America, which pushed East-West trade and détente in the 1980s, is now lecturing the Kremlin on human rights.
Syrian Christians are being slaughtered with abandon. A third of the population has been exiled. But that pales compared to a ban on men in bikini briefs grinding their way through the streets of Moscow. The Media Research Center notes that while NBC has been all over the Russian child-protection law, the network has yet to report on the plight of Syrian Christians.
A word about that law, which wasn't initiated by Putin and passed the State Duma without a single dissenting vote: It does not outlaw homosexuality. Dozens of gay clubs operate openly in Moscow. The only prohibition is publicly promoting homosexuality to minors.
For example, two homosexuals are not allowed to stand outside an elementary school with a banner that says: "Hey kids, sodomy is swell – and you should try it!" Each violation by an individual is punishable by a fine that's the equivalent of $50.00. Violations of the Nuremberg laws, which had nothing to do with Jewish parades in Berlin, were punished by imprisonment and hard labor.
Why would Russia, with a declining population, be concerned about promoting these "non-traditional lifestyles" to children? Might it have something to do with the British medical journal The Lancet's report that a male homosexual is 18 times more likely to contract HIV than a heterosexual – or those notorious homophobes at the Centers for Disease Control disclosing that in 2010, men who have sex with men (as they delicately put it) accounted for 63% of new HIV infections in the U.S.?
"We must all raise our voices against attacks on lesbian, gay, bisexual , transgender or intersex people." says UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. "We must all oppose the arrests, imprisonments and discriminatory restrictions they face." Must we?
Western gay groups protesting Putin over Russian law banning gay propaganda
At the United Nations and throughout the West, discriminatory restrictions on traditional believers who object, however mildly, to non-traditional life-styles are the order of the day.
The left believes in popular sovereignty – within narrowly defined limits. In the United States, between 1998 and 2012, the voters of 32 states passed constitutional bans on same-sex marriage. This represents 50 million votes for maintaining the integrity of the institution on which civilization depends. On average, the referenda passed by two-to-one majorities.
Despite that overwhelming expression of popular sentiment, state and federal courts (SCOTUS included) have been working overtime to negate the will of the people. When he's through remaking Russia, perhaps Rushdie will help to "bring about a healthy democracy" in America.
Christians who refuse to participate in a travesty that violates their deeply held beliefs are pulverized by judges and bureaucrats drunk on the heady elixir of sexual rights.
The New Mexico Supreme Court fined a photographer $6,638 for declining to photograph a lesbian "commitment ceremony." For refusing to host a gay "wedding," the Vermont Human Rights Commission – which bears a striking resemblance to a People's Revolutionary Tribunal – fined the Wildflower Inn $10,000 and required its owners to place $20,000 in a charitable trust for lesbians. The Washington State Attorney General is pursuing a florist for a similar offense.
When did engaging in non-traditional sexual relations become a human right? Where is the sodomy clause in the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution or U.N. Universal Declaration of Human Rights?
The 1948 UN declaration calls the family (defined as mother, father and children) "the natural and fundamental group of society, and (as such) entitled to protection by society and the state." Fat chance, when family rights conflict with the imperative to advance the left's sexual agenda.
In 2005, Lexington, Massachusetts father David Parker was arrested and led away in handcuffs when he refused to leave school grounds to protest his 6-year-old son's initiation into the regime of tolerance by being forced to read "Who's In A Family?" ("Heather Has A Bisexual Mommy and A Transgendered Daddy"). A federal judge dismissed Parker's civil rights suit, ruling that under the state's new gay marriage law, schools have a positive duty to indoctrinate students and a right to keep parents in the dark.
Late last year, the U.S. Senate passed the Employment Non-Discrimination Act which extends "sexual orientation" and "gender identity" rights to the workplace. If ENDA is enacted, a male employee will have a legal right to wear a dress to work. Objecting to same will be a civil rights violation punishable by heavy fines.
California's bizarre-beyond-belief bathroom bill is on hold, pending the outcome of a referendum triggered by opponents collecting 619,000 signatures on a repeal petition. The law allows boys who "feel like girls" to use the bathrooms and changing rooms, and shower with, those who not only feel like girls but in fact are girls. And Putin would deny such progress to his people? For shame, I say!
Both California and New Jersey now have bans on reparative therapy. Under penalty of law, parents are forbidden to take their children to a counselor for unwanted same-sex attraction. State Sen. Ted Lieu, the law's sponsor, admitted it was intended as an "attack on parental rights… because we don't want to let parents harm their children."
Chai Feldblum, who Obama placed on the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, tells us that when religious beliefs conflict with the rights of sexual minorities, she would have "a hard time coming up with any case in which religious liberty should win."
Here's another gem from Comrade Chai – whose thinking reflects the reigning cultural ethos: "Just as we do not tolerate private religious beliefs that adversely affect African-Americans in the commercial arena, even if such beliefs are based on religious views, we should similarly not tolerate private beliefs about sexual orientation and gender identity that adversely affect LGBT people," says the former law professor. Russia's child-protection law is mild compared to this type of thought-control.
In a recent address, Putin observed: "Many Euro-Atlantic countries have moved away from their roots, including Christian values." The Russian President admonished, "Policies are being pursued that place on the same level a multi-child family and a same-sex partnership, a faith in God and a belief in Satan. This is the path to degradation." Putin could never make it in U.S. politics, being too grounded in reality.
Last week, Ban's boys at the U.N. Committee on the Rights of the Child ordered the Catholic Church "to review its position on abortion, which places obvious risks on the life and health of pregnant girls" – unlike abortion, which has a salutary effect on 16-year-olds.
The committee also urged the Vatican to re-think its opposition to faux marriage, which "fails to recognize the diversity of family settings," and inevitably leads to "stigmatization of and violence against… adolescents and children raised by same sex couples."
But what are the deeply held beliefs of 1.2 billion people, and a 2,000-year-old institution, against the imperative of sexual-orientation/gender-identity "equality," opposition to which is, after all, a lot like cattle cars and gas chambers.
As my friend and Russian pro-family leader Alexey Komov likes to say: "Under Reagan, America helped to save us from communism. We'd like to return the favor."
