A Charlatan Made in Brazil Exiled in the United States

A Charlatan Made in Brazil Exiled in the United States

By Julio Severo

In a Facebook post of November 14, 2020, Olavo de Carvalho, who identifies himself as a great philosopher but is actually a self-exiled Brazilian immigrant to the U.S. since 2005, complained about the American Jewish writer Benjamin Teitelbaum saying:

“Benjamin Teitelbaum doesn’t know how to read a word in Portuguese, about my work he doesn’t have access to primary sources and the simple fact that, under these conditions, writing a university thesis about it already confirms him as a charlatan.”

It is true that Teitelbaum does not speak Portuguese. But he was careful to interview Carvalho and other names connected to the Traditionalist School, an esoteric cult, founded by René Guénon, with political ambitions mixing extreme right and occultism — an euphemism for Satanism. He also interviewed Steve Bannon, who at the time was very close to Carvalho, which was trained by direct disciples of Guénon.

Teitelbaum wrote the book “War for Eternity”, published by HarperCollins in 2020. HarperCollins is one of the largest secular publishers in the U.S. He dealt with the adherents of the Islamic occultist René Guénon.

The focus of this book is not, even by far, Olavo de Carvalho, who worldwide is an unknown and strange figure. The focus is Steve Bannon, who is mentioned 269 times. Julius Evola is mentioned 103 times. And Olavo de Carvalho? He is cited only 19 times, as an example of a traditionalist who became Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro’s guru. The attention he received, although small, was exclusively at the expense of the attention that Bolsonaro has granted him, just as Rasputin received a lot of fame at the expense of the attention that the Russian tsar granted him. If it were not for Bolsonaro, it is doubtful that he would even be mentioned by Teitelbaum or any other American writer or journalist.

Although there are major parallels between Julius Evola and Olavo de Carvalho, Evola is followed by esoteric fascists from Europe, the U.S. and the whole world, while Carvalho is followed only by Brazilian esoteric fascists. But, in his mind, he thinks he’s much more famous now than Steve Bannon, Julius Evola and other members of the Traditionalist School.

Outside Brazil, Carvalho is largely unknown, despite the fact that he has lived as a self-exiled Brazilian immigrant in the U.S.

That is why the educated members of the Inter-American Institute found it so interesting to read my articles, which revealed his obscure views, available only in Portuguese, that Carvalho refused to show to the American public.

What is intriguing about Carvalho’s behavior is that he maintained the Inter-American Institute in the U.S., and half of the members were evangelicals who did not speak any Portuguese. In fact, the only evangelical who spoke Portuguese well was a famous American judge that I myself presented to the institute. He was by far the most important person in the institute.

So, if Carvalho complains about Teitelbaum who doesn’t speak Portuguese, why is it that for more than 10 years he never complained about members of the institute who don’t speak Portuguese?

I personally met other evangelical members of the institute on international trips and they assured me that they knew nothing about Carvalho and did not know how to read Portuguese. What will Carvalho say? That all American evangelical members of the institute are charlatans for not speaking Portuguese? Isn’t charlatan the individual who hides information from other people that they do not know due to language barriers? If Carvalho doesn’t fit the definition of charlatan, who does? René Guénon? Incidentally, C.S. Lewis called Guénon a charlatan, but as a good charlatan Carvalho defended his occult master.

When I explained to them that Carvalho hid his attacks on evangelicals in Brazil from them and also that he was using the institute to obtain immigration visas for his family, the institute was unable to proceed.

I showed the American public the truth that Carvalho hid from them.

Result: The Inter-American Institute, which only worked to inflate Carvalho’s ego and deal with immigration visa issues for his family, was closed.

The fact is that Carvalho acted as a charlatan for evangelicals who were members of the institute. He made them fools. His conduct has never been investigated and if it is investigated, American justice will understand that the real charlatan is not the American Jew who exposed the Traditionalist School and its members. The charlatan is the Brazilian immigrant who entered the U.S. through various suspicious schemes to escape and exile himself from his charlatanic tricks in Brazil.

Carvalho’s charlatanism is so profound that although he became famous in Brazil as a professional astrologer, he has the nerve to say that Martin Luther was more astrologer than he is. With the communist experience he has of the past, he always accuses others of what he himself is.

According to Merriam-Webster, “charlatan” is one who pretends unscrupulously to knowledge or skill. For God’s sake, this is Carvalho, not Teitelbaum!

Americans have a hard time following quacks. That is why living in exile in the U.S. since 2005 Carvalho is only successful among American adherents of Guénon. But in Brazil, the charlatan is adored as if he were a wizard full of shrewdness and magic.

Teitelbaum cannot read Portuguese. And even Carvalho’s American friends cannot read Portuguese. Yet, for disgrace of Carvalho and his charlatanism, I can read Portuguese and English, and I have studied his past and current activities. I am the worst nightmare of his occultism. But I am also fully trained to cast out all his demons if he is open to be free from them.

Although Carvalho says he is much persecuted, the vast majority of reports and articles about him in English accurately present him as a man with an occult history. One of the greatest books against the occult, “War For Eternity: Inside Bannon's Far-Right Circle of Global Power Brokers,” by Benjamin R. Teitelbaum, presents the main names of Guénon’s Traditionalist School, including Steve Bannon, Julius Evola, Alexander Dugin and Carvalho, who was only mentioned, albeit rarely, because of the much propaganda Bolsonaro does for him.

Teitelbaum is an American Jewish writer and his book deals with occultism on the right in the U.S., Russia and Brazil.

Carvalho has not threatened Teitelbaum and other Americans who exposed their occult connections, but he has, in several videos, threatened me, asking the Bolsonaro government and the Federal Police to investigate me. His claim is that my exposés against him involving the Inquisition and esotericism are a threat to Brazil’s national security.

The difference between him and me is big. He says he is persecuted when the U.S. press exposes his occult connections, while for years I have been attacked by the leftist press in the United States solely because of my conservative evangelical stances against abortion and homosexual sin.

While Carvalho is “persecuted” for his occult connections, I am persecuted by the left and by Carvalho himself for my Christian connections. All criticism of the U.S. press against Carvalho is not because of Christianity, but because of occultism and extremist rightism. All criticism of the U.S. press against me is because of Christianity.
