Walter Altmann, World Council of Churches, Liberation Theology and Soviet Ghosts

Walter Altmann, World Council of Churches, Liberation Theology and Soviet Ghosts

By Julio Severo
To have a prominent leader of the powerful liberal World Council of Churches complaining that an article against Liberation Theology has impacted negatively his activities is no small honor to a conservative.
On a 30 May 2018 Facebook post, Rev. Walter Altmann, a former Moderator of the World Council of Churches, protested against an 2006 article titled “Soviet Ghosts Haunt the World Council of Churches,” written by Mark D. Tooley and published by FrontPage Magazine.
Perhaps, because Tooley’s article was in English, it would have had no impact in Brazil if it had not been translated into Portuguese.
I translated it and published it in Brazil in 2007. Since then, Altmann, who is a former president of the Evangelical Church of Lutheran Confession in Brazil (ECLCB, the largest Lutheran denomination in Brazil), has seen, as he told in his Facebook post, his own Facebook friends publishing my translation of Tooley’s article in his own Facebook page!
So at last he unburdened his heart to his Facebook friends, saying:
“When one intends to accuse another person of something that he is supposed to have committed, an elemental ethical principle is to give the person beforehand the opportunity to clarify and defend himself, for whoever makes the accusation public, if unfounded, will have incurred in slander and defamation. And, certainly, you have broken the biblical commandment to not bear false witness against anyone. Well, it happens routinely for one of my ‘friends’ to pass on as an indisputable truth the claim that I was a ‘Soviet agent’… They do so by reproducing a slanderous article, from a page of Washington’s extreme religious right, translated into Portuguese in 2007, by Julio Severo…”
Altmann’s Facebook post is interestingly titled “EU – FANTASMA SOVIÉTICO?” (AM I A SOVIET GHOST?)
In this point, I can clarify and even defend Altmann. He is not a Soviet ghost! In fact, Tooley’s article never said that Altmann was a Soviet ghost and did not target him mainly. It targeted the World Council of Churches (WCC), making it very clear that its reference to Soviet ghosts meant the Soviet influences in movements and conferences supported by WCC.
If Altmann’s friends are using my translation of Tooley’s article to request a biblical accountability from him, why doesn’t he listen to their plea?
Even if Altmann had never been the Moderator of the World Council of Churches and even if he never attended conferences influenced by Soviets, his spiritual problems are not solved.
In October 1999, when he was the president of the Latin American Council of Churches, Altmann met communist dictator Fidel Castro and gave him his book “Lutero e Libertação” (Luther and Liberation). So, even without Soviet ghosts, the hard truth is that Altmann, in his activities and books, has been an advocate of the Liberation Theology, which Luther never advocated.
In 2009, Mark D. Tooley published his article “Resurrecting Liberation Theology: The World Council of Churches tries to revive Marxism in religious garb,” in FrontPage Magazine, where Altmann was quoted as saying in a WCC publication:
“Since the fall of the Berlin Wall, twenty years ago, many critics have been quick to sign liberation theology’s death certificate. Most of them did so because they understood it to be an apology of bygone Soviet-style socialism. It seems, though, that this death certificate has been issued prematurely.”
According to Altmann, as quoted by Tooley,
“Liberation theology is spiritually grounded on — and gets its motivation from — the life changing encounter with Christ as liberator and with our neighbors,” whose suffering results from “systemic injustices and oppression.”
Alas for Altmann, I translated and published Tooley’s article in Brazil!
Even though Liberation Theology is not Protestant, because of his ecumenical involvements through WCC he eventually adapted it to the Lutheran perspective. The Protestant version of Liberation Theology is Theology of Integral Mission. The Evangelical Church of Lutheran Confession in Brazil is prominent in both liberal theologies, thanks to leaders like Altmann.
So am I accusing Altmann of being a former Soviet agent because he advocates Liberation Theology? No. Even though the KGB used Liberation Theology for its own advantage, it was not produced by the KGB. Such mistaken propaganda was probably created by a former communist who for years has been sponsored by the CIA. As recognized by a Brazilian traditionalist Catholic in the article “Liberation Theology, a KGB Invention? That Is Way Too Simple...,” Liberation Theology was born in the Catholic Church before the KGB.
If Altmann had got involved only in the Gospel, by proclaiming it, healing the sick and expelling demons — just as Jesus and his disciples did —, he would never have had time or interest to get involved in a political theology that uses the Gospel to proclaim Marxism and make Christians sick and demonized.
Ecumenism drew Altmann away from Jesus’s Gospel and brought him near “Christian” Marxism, or Liberation Theology.
Even if Soviets had never used Liberation Theology, it is not Christian, because it uses the Gospel as a left-wing political platform.
Liberation Theology is not spiritually grounded on Christ as liberator, as Altmann alleged, making Christ a political liberator at the service of the leftist ideology. He bore false witness. Is Christ a Deliverer? Certainly. He delivers people, even Christians, from diseases and demons. And Christians who preach Liberation Theology are spiritually oppressed and need to be delivered from demons.
I have publicly clarified that Altmann is not a Soviet ghost. But he was involved with Soviet ghosts and he was certainly influenced by the Catholic liberal theology through ecumenism.
So if these public accusations are based on Altmann’s public activities and writings, why does he insist on saying that these accusation are “unfounded” and that Tooley and I have “incurred in slander and defamation”?
If he actually believed in his own unfounded accusations, he would have long ago pressed charges against us.
Altmann should stop whining about the consequences of his ideological choices.
He should be kept accountable for having borne false witness against the Gospel of Jesus Christ by using it to promote Liberation Theology.
The Gospel belongs to Jesus Christ. Liberation Theology belongs to the Catholic Church. And Marxism belongs to Karl Marx. So give back to the Catholic Church what is Catholic Church’s. Give back to Marxism what is Marxism’s. And give back to Jesus Christ what is Jesus Christ’s.
The Lutheran Church does not need Liberation Theology imported, through ecumenism, from the Catholic Church. It needs deliverance from the demons of Liberation Theology and Marxism. It needs a charismatic renewal from the Holy Spirit.
Christians who live Spirit-filled lives do not need to be filled with liberal theological garbage.

Protestant Church Founded by George Washington Rejects Him and Embraces Feminism and Liberation Theology

Protestant Church Founded by George Washington Rejects Him and Embraces Feminism and Liberation Theology

By Julio Severo
There was a day, not too long ago, when any American Protestant church would have been proud to claim George Washington, the first president of the United States and the founder of the American nation, as one of its founders and first members.
George Washington praying
That day has passed.
At Christ Church of Alexandria, Virginia, where the motto is “All are welcome, no exceptions,” its leaders decided its most famous member, George Washington, is no longer welcome.
Christ Church announced last October that it will remove a stone plaque that reads “In memory of George Washington” currently displayed on the left side of the altar.
Washington was one of the founding members of Christ Church, which is affiliated with the Episcopal Church USA. He purchased pew No. 5 when the church opened in 1773 and attended it for more than 20 years. Christ Church was as important to Washington that his family donated one of his Bibles to the church after his death.
Christ Church founded by George Washington
Christ Church said that the stone plaque on the side of the altar has become controversial because Washington owned slaves.
But feminism is not controversial for them. The Episcopal Church USA has embraced the “Mother Earth” theology, a supposedly “Christian” feminism.
Christ Church, founded by Washington, is today so feminist that it does not have a single male pastor listed on its website. All four ministers in this church are female. One of them, the Rev. Ann Gillespie, is a former Hollywood actress who recently included in her sermon a new version of the Apostle’s Creed.
It starts out, “I believe in God, our Mother Bear, source of all being,” and it refers to Mary, the mother of Jesus, as “the bad-ass womanist liberation theologian, Mary.”
This “creed” was concocted by a lesbian woman named Sarah Moon, who is a member of a United Methodist Church in Toledo, Ohio.
Moon declared in a September 2014 blog post she could no longer bear to recite the Apostle’s Creed, so she rewrote it and came up with her own “Feminist Apostle’s Creed.”
The Episcopal Church USA’s website indicates that liberation theology, social justice, Earth worship and inclusiveness take priority over the traditional Christian missions of trying to live a holy life and sharing the Gospel.
So Christ Church, founded by Washington, is today inclusive to liberation theology, feminism and the gay agenda, but it cannot tolerate Washington over slavery.
Slavery was a universal reality in Washington’s time, and even blacks in Africa, centuries before their first contacts with whites, enslaved other blacks. Even blacks in America enslaved blacks. Slavery was not begun by Washington and other Christians, and it was not ended by blacks or liberation theology adherents. It was ended by William Wilberforce and other Protestant whites.
If feminist ministers at Christ Church can see slavery in Washington, why cannot they see the modern slavery?
Do anti-Washington feminist ministers at Christ Church go naked? Almost no American today uses clothes not made by slave labor.
“‘Everyone loves a bargain but the true cost of that latest wardrobe addition is pitiful wages for Bangladesh’s legion of factory workers,’ writes Simon Parry” in his report “The true cost of your cheap clothes: slave wages for Bangladesh factory workers.” Cheap American clothes today are made by slave workers in Bangladesh and other poor nations.
Yet, you do not see feminists and black ativists in America complaining of the plight of those poor modern slaves. You do not see them going naked on boycott. To blame Washington is easier.
Do not anti-Washington feminist ministers at Christ Church use iPhone? Almost no American today goes without iPhone — whose making involves slavery from the beginning to the end.
An essential component of iPhone, Samsung and other smartphones and notebooks is coltan, which is extracted from mines in Congo by slave labor of children as young as 13. Congo in Africa has 80 percent of the world’s coltan, which is sent to factories in China — most notably, the Foxconn factories in Shenzhen. These factories, which produce components for iPhone, are “labor camp,” in which teenage students are forced to work more than double or even triple the overtime limit (36 hours a month under China’s labor laws). Regularly, workers attempt suicide. Even though there are anti-suicide nets to hinder workers from jumping from the roof of the buildings, some have succeeded.
You can see clothed feminists and black activists with their iPhones in their hands complaining of “Washington’s slavery,” but no angry that they are themselves actively supporting modern slavery.
Modern slaves have no time to study.
American history indicates that many white owners allowed their slaves to study. But feminists and blacks in the Protestant church founded by Washington do not care if he was kind or not to their slaves. They want to keep using their iPhones and clothes made by modern slaves, regardless if the slave labor is cruel or not.
Now George Washington is purged from his own church by feminists and liberation theology adherents, in a wave by black activists to remove monuments of white personalities, including Christopher Columbus.
For feminists, liberation theology adherents and black activists, Washington was racist just for being white.
What will come next? Will they remake the U.S. flag — yes, the Old Glory — and the Constitution because they were made by Anglo-Saxon whites and produce a flag and Constitution with the joint participation of blacks, Indians, Chinese, etc.?
Will they remake the U.S. flag and the Constitution because they were made by men and produce a flag and Constitution with the joint participation of homosexuals, etc.?
Will they remake the U.S. flag and the Constitution because they were made by mostly Protestant men and produce a flag and Constitution with the joint participation of Muslims, Hindus, sorcerers, etc.?
When the Protestant church founded by George Washington rejects him but embraces feminism and liberation theology, it is a dark sign of Satanism invading the Protestant foundation of America.
It is time to defend Washington and the Protestant principle of the Bible guiding individuals, families and nations to defeat feminism, liberation theology and the gay agenda. Washington said, “It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible.”
In this spirit, I am sure that while witches, occultists and Satanists were celebrating Halloween in October 31, 2017, Washington would be celebrating the landmark 500 years of the Protestant Reformation.
If even Donald Trump chose to celebrate Halloween, instead of the Protestant Reformation, what expect from Christ Church?
The Protestant church founded by Washington needs more than ever to obey the Bible.
America founded by Washington needs more than ever to obey the Bible.
If America denies and forgets her spiritual foundation, God will forget her.

Ion Mihai Pacepa and Disinformation

Ion Mihai Pacepa and Disinformation

By Julio Severo
In the book “Disinformation” (published by WND in 2013), Ion Mihai Pacepa offers his view on a Liberation Theology and Islamic terrorism exclusively created by the KGB and a Nazism and Soviet Marxism as “brothers.”
Ion Pacepa
He offers his view as a former KGB agent today under CIA protection.
As soon as his book was published, I acquired it. Before reading it, I had already published some articles on him. But after reading the book, I was surprised at his exceedingly simplistic conclusions.

Jewish Issue and a Supposed Equality Between Nazism and Soviet Marxism

Pacepa says that Nazism and Soviet Marxism were absolutely similar. In fact, there were similar points but as any historian knows and as every Israel-loving Christian knows, the most important issue in the 2nd World War was the Holocaust that Nazis committed against the Jews, annihilating 6 million of them. In this specific issue, was there equality between Nazism and Soviet Marxism?
What History records is that while the Nazi army annihilated the Jews throughout Europe, the Soviet Union’s Red Army consisted of thousands of Jews, who helped annihilate Nazism. While the Gestapo (the Nazi secret police) relentless persecuted the Jews, NKVD, the KGB predecessor, was founded by the Soviet Jew Genrikh Yagoda, considered the greatest Jewish murderer in the 20th century, according to an Israeli newspaper.
So as far as the 2nd World War Jews are concerned, Nazism and Soviet Marxism were in opposed sides: Nazism was a total enemy of the Jews while the Soviet Marxism was a friend. Even though this in no way excuses the atrocities of the Soviet Union, it freed the first Nazi concentration camp and it was the first nation to acknowledge officially at the United Nations the modern State of Israel in 1948.
Hitler’s anti-Jewish hatred found no match in the Soviet Union, but in a powerful U.S. capitalist of his time.
My article “Hitler’s Strident Anti-Marxism,” based on the views of Henry Ford (a capitalist magnate of the automobile industry) and Hitler, brings literal mentions by them and shows that their hatred of the Soviet Marxism was derived from the fact that the Jews had a certain control of the communist revolution in Russia. You can see more information in my article “Jewish Issues: A Clarification to Christians about Their Perception on the Jews.”

Is Liberation Theology a KGB’s Daughter?

In his book Pacepa insists that KGB is the mother of Liberation Theology. But both U.S. and Brazilian Catholics dispute Pacepa. (Brazil is the largest Catholic nation in the world, heavily affected by Liberation Theology.) U.S. Catholic author John L. Allen, of Crux, said:
“Catholic Archbishop Hélder Câmara of Olinda and Recife in Brazil didn’t have to be ‘maneuvered.’ He was already on board with liberation theology before anyone in Moscow knew it was stirring. That’s not to say the KGB didn’t do whatever it could to support leftist movements in Latin America critical of capitalism and the United States. It would be surprising if they hadn’t, given the zero/sum Cold War logic that anything that seemed to hurt one side benefited the other. In that sense, Pacepa is likely correct about the KGB strategy, but may be giving the agency too much credit for its results.”
Helder Camara, who founded the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil and is the patron of the Brazilian Catholic Left, is in process of sainthood in the Vatican.
The Plínio Corrêa de Oliveira Institute, a Brazilian Catholic institution known for its conservative stances, also disputed the exaggerated conclusions in Pacepa’s book, by posting the article titled “Liberation Theology, a KGB Invention? That Is Way Too Simple...
To say, as Pacepa said, that the KGB created Liberation Theology equates saying that CIA created the Pentecostal and charismatic movements, even though some very radical Catholics declare just so. During the Cold War, the KGB supported sectors in the Catholic Church connected to Liberation Theology while CIA supported conservative Pentecostal movements that were opposed to Liberation Theology. See my article “The Religious War between CIA and KGB in Latin America.” I have attended Pentecostal and charismatic churches. Does it mean that I am CIA child? By no means.
Prominent Catholic website National Catholic Register, in an article written by the Catholic journalist Victor Gaetan, rebutted Pacepa and his book by showing that there is disinformative content in his declarations. See the article “Disinformation” and a Dubious Source.
Catholic theologian Malachi Martin shows several Catholic ecclesiastical leaders who, before the KGB’s birth, promoted Liberation Theology.
The big challenge, therefore, is to read Pacepa’s book knowing how to distinguish between what is real and imaginary, filtrating what seems showy and impossible to prove. It is suspicious, for example, the fact that Pacepa is praised by CIA — a praise cheerfully recorded in his book. Opposition to the KGB, for a conservative, does not mean automatic support to CIA. To receive praises from CIA (headed today by a Muslim), or from the KGB, is a disadvantage, making the praised individual worthy of mistrust.

Is Modern Islamic Terror a KGB Creation?

According to information from WND itself, which published originally the Pacepa book, the U.S. government secretly sent many supplies of weapons to Syrian rebels (largely Islamic terrorists connected to al-Qaeda) who have been raping, torturing and slaughtering Christians in Syria. CIA played a major role in this scheme. In fact, WND accuses Hillary Clinton of having helped create ISIS, which has slaughtered thousands of Christians in the Middle East.
Besides, it is known that CIA gave billions of dollars to create al-Qaeda in the late 1970s, in a scheme to strengthen and use Islamic terror to overturn the Soviet Union. But the scheme was turned upside down when one of the CIA Islamic agents, Saudi Osama bin Laden, for some reason rebelled himself against the U.S. CIA and its former agent played a crucial role in the strengthening of the modern Islamic terror. But Pacepa seems to ignore all of this, even though he presents himself as an expert on Islamic terror. He insists in attributing 100 percent blame on the KGB.
Pacepa, who supposedly occupied so prominent post in the KGB that it allowed him to know at length the CIA involvement in the fomentation of the international Islamic terror, in his book he pretends that he has no such knowledge, or he hides it in order to be in the favor and privileges of CIA.
I examined his book “Disinformation” and I did not find any criticism of CIA and no mention of the fact that CIA had and has undeniable participation in the modern Islamic terror. In fact, the current CIA director is a Muslim, having converted to this murderous religion when he was in Saudi Arabia. Even so, to CIA Pacepa has in store only praises; to the KGB, criticism. Why not, for fairness, criticize both?
In “Disinformation,” Pacepa tells that his protection, identity and other personal issues are under CIA responsibility. The introduction of his book was written by James Woolsey, a former CIA director. In this point, some could question if the Pacepa book denounces disinformation or is a tool of disinformation.
By following his own exaggerated conclusions, Pacepa has more than enough reasons to say that the U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump is a “KGB agent.
In fact, a former CIA director has said just so. He also said that he is going to vote for pro-Islam Hillary Clinton and he praised the fact that since 9/11 the CIA’s Counterterrorism Center was headed by a Muslim for over ten years. The current CIA director is Muslim. Former U.S. President George H.W. Bush, also a former CIA director, said that he is going to vote for Hillary.
If this scandal were connected to KGB, Pacepa would be exposing it and yelling.
Why his silence?

The Religious War between CIA and KGB in Latin America

The Religious War between CIA and KGB in Latin America

How the U.S. Supported the Protestant Advance against the Liberation Theology Promoted by Catholic Bishops and KGB

By Julio Severo
The information and disinformation war by the Soviet Union and the United States in the Cold War days was not limited only to the political sphere in Latin America. According to two Catholic bloggers, while the Soviet Union supported the advance of Liberation Theology, the U.S. supported the advance of evangelicals and Pentecostals.
The Soviet Union saw the Catholic Church in Latin America as a natural ally of Marxism and the U.S. saw Protestant and Pentecostal churches, which have always resisted Marxism, as natural allies of the U.S. government.
In his article entitled “La Expansión del Protestantismo Fue Parte del Plan de Guerra de la CIA para América del Sur” (The Expansion of Protestantism Was Part of CIA War Plan for South America), Catholic blogger Jorge Rondón Santos mentions a 1969 memorandum addressed to President Richard Nixon. Drafted by Republican Nelson Rockefeller, Baptist and U.S. vice-president, it said about Latin America: “the Catholic church has ceased to be an ally in whom the U.S. can have confidence.” It is confirmed by Wade Clark Roof, in the page 84 of his book “World Order and Religion” (1991 SUNY Press). Roof was Professor of Religion and Society in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Santos said that Rockefeller and the U.S. government supported the Protestant advance in Latin America. Their strategy was to counter Liberation Theology by promoting Protestant churches that were rivals to the Catholic Church.
Santos uses as special example Guatemala, which according to him will be the first mostly Protestant nation in Latin America. He declares that to counter a devotional revolutionary Catholicism, the U.S. government’s plan was to stimulate Protestant missions, “which with a ‘bread and dollar’ speech drew to themselves thousands of poor people in the countryside and cities who sought spiritual power.”
Former general and former Guatemala President José Efraín Ríos Montt used, during his administration, the national broadcasting network on Sundays to preach and say that the Guatemalan people were the “elected people” and accusing the Catholic Church of being a “collaborator of Marxism,” Santos complained. Montt was a member of a Pentecostal church.
The connection between Protestant missions and CIA was more exposed in the 1980s, when several Latin American military governments expelled the Summer Institute of Linguistics (connected to Wycliffe Bible Translators), accusing its missionaries of being CIA operatives. Nevertheless its anti-Marxism and its pro-U.S. position, the Brazilian military government did not want such intrusion of missionary spies, especially in the Amazonian region, suspecting that these missionaries, funded by the Rockefeller family (unprincipled capitalist executives), were spying on the natural resources of Amazon.
In that time, I thought it was greatly unfair for the Brazilian military government to expel the U.S. missionaries and I wrote a supporting letter to the Summer Institute of Linguistics. I still support their work, but only years later I learnt, through U.S. and Brazilian sources, that actually there were and there are in Brazil American missionaries connected to CIA.
Even though it was very helpful the financial, strategic and logistic support of Nelson Rockefeller for the Protestant and Pentecostal advance in Latin America to counter the religious leftist advance from the Catholic Church, it should not go unnoticed that he was also behind the infamous NSSM 200, or the Kissinger Report, a confidential document written by the U.S. government in 1974 addressing the keeping of resources of other nations for the U.S. interests having as a focus the population reduction of those nations. The purpose of this reduction was to weaken opposition to the U.S. interests.
The harmful effect of Rockefeller’s strategy in NSSM 200 is that the goal of population reduction did not hit only leftist Catholics, but also Protestants and Pentecostals he said that he was supporting and who became equally victims of population reduction propaganda and politics disguised as “family planning.”
Rockefeller’s only success was to identify Liberation Theology as a threat. According to the American leftist Catholic blogger Mike Rivage-Seul, in his article “The First Religious War of the 21st Century”: “The Rockefeller Report of 1969 already identified liberation theology as a threat to the national security of the United States… The [Reagan] administration heeded the advice, and responded both militarily and ideologically.”
According to Rivage-Seul, there was an agreement in which Ronald Reagan would help Pope John Paul II in the campaign against communism in Poland and, in return, the pope would remain silent about U.S. campaigns against Latin American leftist Catholics. The papal collaboration happened also through the gradual replacement of pro-Liberation Theology bishops for conservative bishops. But over three decades later, huge is the number of pro-Liberation Theology Catholic bishops. The substitutions were not enough.
The anticommunist fight itself of John Paul II was imperfect, because he was a great supporter of Yasser Arafat, the founder of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), a terrorist Islamic group fighting the State of Israel. In this fight, the Vatican was more comfortable with PLO, which promoted a Palestine version of Liberation Theology.
Today, the Vatican under Pope Francis is much more aligned with the leftist ideology, having approved the sainthood process for Helder Camara, the founder of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil and patron of the Brazilian Catholic Left.
As if the Brazilian Catholicism were not plagued enough by the leftist ideology, U.S. Catholic missionaries coming to Brazil brought the same ideology. In 2005, U.S. nun Dorothy Stang, who was a Liberation Theology adherent, was murdered in Brazil. She was allegedly killed for political and environmental activities in Brazil since the 1970s.
With the picture of religious war during the Cold War in which the Soviet Union used Catholics and the U.S. used Protestants and Pentecostals, I am surprised then that a Brazilian Catholic blogger said that “Marxism is a Protestant product,” when the reality is that the most Catholic region in the world, Latin America, has been mostly a garner and ally of Marxism, while Protestantism, especially its Pentecostal variants, has mostly resisted Marxism.
Another Brazilian Catholic says that the first totalitarian society (of a Marxist kind) in the Modern Age was Protestantism in Geneva under Calvin.
Yet, by considering the Latin American population growth, especially in Brazil, as a threat to the U.S. national security, Nelson Rockefeller and the U.S. government, as made evident by NSSM 200, harmed both pro-Marxism Catholics and anti-Marxism evangelicals.
NSSM 200 was produced by a U.S. Republican administration, the Richard Nixon administration, in which abortion was nationally legalized from conception until childbirth in 1973. In fact, Rockefeller was also a member of the Republican Party, which supposedly is conservative and does not want to meddle in the internal affairs of other nations.
Even though it has brought huge benefits to Protestants and Pentecostals in Latin America (not in the population control issue), the fight of those worldly-minded Republicans helped in no way to change the fate of the U.S., which has as its current president Barack Obama, raised up as a Muslim and posteriorly mentored in a Liberation Theology Black Protestant church.
Besides, the U.S. government gave support not only to anti-Marxist Protestants (and also Catholics). In the administration of Jimmy Carter, who as a progressive (leftist) Baptist, great was the U.S. support for the World Council of Churches (constituted by leftist Protestants) and Brazilian Catholic bishops. Papers gathered by the Carter administration against the Brazilian military government were used two years ago by the Obama administration to help Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff to strengthen her socialist administration against military attempts to destabilize it. But the destabilization, and especially her impeachment, is coming exactly from Pentecostals, traditional enemies of Marxism and friends and allies of U.S. administrations that are honestly conservative.
In fact, Pentecostals can be friends and allies of any government, regardless it is American or not, that are honestly conservative. If a today’s ruler is brave to resist the politically correct trends of valuing abortions and homosexual “marriages,” he will receive support from conservative Christians, especially Pentecostals.
Today’s religious war is not any longer between CIA and KGB. It is not any longer between the Soviet Union and the U.S. Now, it is between pro-life values and pro-abortion impositions; pro-family values and homosexual “marriage” impositions. Pentecostals are more than willing to support the right side in this war.
Yet, Catholics in Brazil, the largest Catholic nation in the world, remain confused by being led for decades by mostly Liberation Theology bishops.
Times have changed. There is no longer a Soviet Union. But the U.S. government, under Obama, could be more than wiling to take advantage of their confusion, a confusion that is engulfing also Pentecostals increasingly mesmerized by the Protestant versions of Liberation Theology.

Bible Ignorance, Clergy Corruption and the Inquisition in England before the Reformation

Bible Ignorance, Clergy Corruption and the Inquisition in England before the Reformation

Bible Illiteracy as the Cause of Widespread Corruption and Deadly Censorship

By Julio Severo
In plain 21th century and specially in the pro-life and conservative movement, it makes no sense to defend the Inquisition, a highly divisive subject contributing nothing to the pro-family cause. But since 2013 I have seen the Inquisition, which tortured and murdered Jews and Protestants, being passionately excused and even defended by some Catholics. See “Can a Pro-Life Activist Defend The Inquisition?” in 2013 and “Neocons, the Inquisition, Russophobia and Lies” in 2015. See also my exchange with the American Catholic writer Theodore Shoebat, who said, “The Inquisition was necessary to protect the people of Spain and Portugal, and Latin America, from pagan tyranny.” (To understand more about the Shoebat case, see his declarations here and my article “A Global Inquisition to Put Homosexuals to Death?”)
After this Inquisition advocacy, I feel a Christian obligation to expose the truth, because only the truth makes people free.
I am reading the book “The History of Religious Liberty,” written by Dr. Michael Farris, founder of the Home School Legal Defense Association the world’s biggest homeschool association. This excellent book, which addresses also the Inquisition and torture and death of Christians at the stake, can be purchased, in its print version, from WND (WorldNetDaily), at this link. To purchase the Kindle version, click here.
“The History of Religious Liberty,” recommended by WND, one of the world’s biggest conservative news sites, should be read by everyone who wants to understand the bloody cost of religious freedom in England, which greatly benefitted the U.S.
In one part of this book, I remembered Brazil, which has, on a large scale, the same problem described by Dr. Farris and which happened abundantly in England before the Protestant Reformation 500 years ago. He tells about a powerful cardinal who had almost as much power in England as the king himself.
Dr. Farris says:
“[The ultra-powerful Cardinal Thomas] Wolsey held incredible power and wealth… He was ordained a priest and became a chaplain at the royal court sometime around 1507. Along the way, Wolsey amassed an amazing fortune that rivaled that of the king. Part of this fortune came from the practice of awarding leading clerics multiple offices from which were obtained multiple salaries. While holding royal office, Wolsley simultaneously held church positions at Hereford Cathedral, Limington in Somerset, Redgrave in Suffolk, Lydd in Kent, and Torrington in Devonshire, among others. This does not mean that Wolsley actively preached or shepherded these congregations or dioceses; the typical practice was similar to that of an absentee landlord: collecting lucrative salaries while providing little, if any, direct service. Wolsey was not alone in this practice. For example, Tyndale’s home of Gloucester County contained the diocese of Worcester, which was among the most abused bishoprics in England. Few of its principal pastors had lived there since 1476, and after 1512 ‘the diocese had enjoyed three Italian bishops, who lived at ease in Rome, and never set foot in England at all, yet drawing meanwhile, ample stipends.’”
“On November 18, 1515, Wolsey was consecrated a cardinal at a ceremony in Westminster Abbey and just over a month later, on December 24, was made the lord chancellor of England — the highest rank in the land other than king. It is said that ‘his power with the king was so great that the Venetian Ambassador said he now might be called ‘Ipse rex’ (the king himself).’”
Dr. Farris explains then the cause of this corruption:
“The Bible was essentially unknown in a nation where the Roman Church was so dominant that the pope’s annual revenue from England was comparable to that taken by the king. Even the clergy were largely scripturally illiterate.”
Elsewhere in his book, Farris shows that English Christians attempting to translate the Bible into English were tortured and burned at the stake. Christians trying to preach the Bible to the people also suffered the same fate. The Catholic Church held the people in ignorance by preaching the Bible only in Latin, a language the people did not understand. Farris explains how a Catholic priest was condemned to be burned for preaching the Bible to the people:
“Early in 1529, a priest named Thomas Hitton was arrested for heresy after preaching in Kent. He was interrogated — we can assume without mercy — and confessed to have smuggled an English New Testament into England from the continent. He was condemned by Archbishop Warnham and Bishop Fisher. By standard practice, the ecclesiastical condemnation was enforced by the secular authorities to maintain the pretense that the church itself did not shed blood. On February 23, 1529, Hitton was burned at the stake in Maidstone. Those professing to love and serve God ceremoniously executed another professing Christian in a slow, agonizing, and brutally painful death — all for the express purpose of sending this ‘heretic’ straight into the fires of hell.”
After Wolsey, Thomas More was appointed Lord Chancellor of England in 1529. According to Michael Farris, More rejoiced at seeing a man condemned to be burned for the only “crime” of owning a Tyndale New Testament. According to Farris, the bloodthirsty More said,
“And now the spirit of error and lying hath taken his wretched soul with him straight from the short fire to the fire everlasting.”
In his obsession to hinder the people from having access to the Bible, More persecuted especially those attempting to translate it into English. He was the great persecutor of William Tyndale, whose Bible translation was a foundation for the famous King James Version, used by the English-speaking people since the 1600s.
According to Farris, “More willed them to be ignorant of the written Word of God lest they ever doubt the Catholic Church on any point.”
For More, Tyndale was a “heretic” worthy of being burned, because by translating the New Testament he had “corrupted” some words of the Bible. Among the words, Michael Farris highlights “love.” Farris notes,
“The dispute over the Greek word agape had serious implications for Catholic practices. Translated ‘charity,’ as More desired, the word has clear financial implications. If Tyndale is correct, and the word is rendered ‘love,’ then 1 Corinthians 13 indicates that the highest duty of the Christian is to love others rather than to give gifts of charity to the church.”
Then Farris shows how Tyndale defended himself for not using the word “charity” in the place of love:
“Throughout his writings, he demonstrates how the ceremonies that the Roman Church contends were revealed by God to the church authorities are better understood as money-making opportunities for the clergy. The sale of indulgences is the best known of these practices. People are denied the freedom to know God's Word, Tyndale suggests, because if they could read it for themselves they would stop paying for religious services that are contrary to the teaching of Scripture.”
Apparently, the Catholic clergy kept the people deliberately ignorant in order to exploit them financially. And the Bible says that the love of money is the root of all evil. No pope, cardinal or bishop is immune to this evil.
It reminds me that greed in the Catholic Church, as explained by Catholic neocon Cliff Kincaid, has been one of the major causes of Islamic immigration into the U.S. According to Kincaid, the Catholic Church gets a multi-million dollar profit with this invasion.
About ignorance and corruption, it is interesting to observe that most current politicians of the ruling Workers’ Party in Brazil had a past involvement with the Catholic Church, especially the base ecclesial communities with their Liberation Theology. In fact, the current opinion is that NCBB (National Conference of Bishops of Brazil) helped found the Workers’ Party (WP), the socialist party ruling today in Brazil.
The ignorance of Brazilian Catholics goes far beyond an exceptionally great adherence to Liberation Theology. It also includes an adherence to historic and religious falsifications. While Michael Farris says that the execution of “heretics” at the stake was a slow, agonizing, and brutally painful death, Brazilian philosopher Olavo de Carvalho denies all of this by saying:
“Even in the popular image of the Inquisition fires lies are predominant. Everybody believes that condemned individuals ‘died burned,’ amid horrible suffering. The flames were high, more than 16 feet high, to hinder suffering. The condemned individuals (less than ten a year in two dozen nations) died suffocated in a few minutes, before the flames could touch them.”
In contrast with Carvalho’s romantic version, Farris wrote that on February 9, 1555, Protestant Bishop John Hooper was executed for “heresy.” Farris says,
“The fire had burned his legs and he stood on the remaining stumps praying in anguish. Eventually one of his arms was burned off as well. The hellish torture lasted 45 minutes before Hooper, retaining consciousness the entire time, finally succumbed to the brutally slow flames.”
Farris also says,
“Perotine Gosset, together with her mother and sister, was convicted of heresy in the summer of 1556 in Guernsey, in the Channel Isles. Perotine did not reveal to the authorities that she was pregnant. The heat of the flames caused her to give birth to a living son, who was snatched from the flames by bystanders. The sheriff grabbed the baby and threw him back into the burning mass of wood and human flesh. His apparent reason was that the baby had been in the mother when she was convicted to die, and so the death sentence applied to him as well.”
The execution of “heretics,” through death in the flames, was done at the stake. Farris records in his book many of such executions at the stake. The word “execution” appears about 100 times in Farris’ book.
He says that between 1506 and 1519, the Catholic Church in England burned at the stake 22 followers of John Wycliffe (1328-1384), who made the first Bible translation into English.
Farris tells that in 1529, Thomas More tortured and executed John Tewkesbury at the stake, because he followed the Bible.
According to Farris, More carried out many similar executions. Farris said, “More defended his many executions by describing ‘heretics’ that were ‘justly’ burned at the stake.”
In Carvalho’s view, the liar regarding the horrific executions by the Catholic Church over 500 years is not Carvalho, but rather Americans. Ironically, he no longer lives in the biggest Catholic nation in the world (Brazil). He lives in the biggest Protestant nation in the world, right in the Bible Belt. Even so, he says:
“The myth of the Inquisition has been the most extensive and lasting campaign of slander and defamation in history until today, with multi-million dollar funding, and it seems this campaign will have no end. Those who created it were not Illuminati or communists. It was created by Protestants, who keep promoting it even today, and the irradiant center is U.S. churches. This is a historical fact that all professional historians today know, and it has nothing to do with ‘theological debates.’”
In an October 2015 remark, Mr. Carvalho said that anti-Inquisition Protestants are worse than KGB. With his usual language of affirming that he is supported by “historical facts, abundantly known…” (when in reality he presents no reliable sources and cloaks his weak arguments with a pseudo-intellectualism), he said:
“It is a historical fact, abundantly known today, that the ‘black legend’ of the Inquisition was from the beginning to the end an invention of Protestants, not of Illuminati or communists. And it is a fact that this legend was and is still the vastest, the most malicious, deceptive and persistent campaign of slander and defamation ever recorded in History. It has lasted 500 years, stretching out throughout the Western world and it shows no indication that it is going to stop. Even the KGB never achieved anything of this magnitude. Like it or not, this is the reality.”
Apparently, just by virtue of being an American Protestant Michael Farris would be involved in an alleged “myth” and “campaign of slander” against the Inquisition and its executions. I wonder if Carvalho would also include Rev. Franklin Graham, the president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, who said about the Inquisition: “Many people in history have used the name of Jesus Christ to accomplish evil things for their own desires. But Jesus taught peace, love and forgiveness. He came to give His life for the sins of mankind, not to take life.”
Ignorance of the Bible and the Gospel is the biggest cause of those confusions, including about the indisputable role of the Brazilian Catholic Church promoting a theological Marxism that has been highly successful in Brazil over the last 50 years.
Less Bible means more ideology, more greed and more corruption. If the Catholic Church in Brazil taught its people to devote themselves to God’s Word, there would be little or no space for the Marxist ideology, and the socialist Workers’ Party would never have been founded. Further, the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil would be preaching the Gospel, not socialist ideas.
Therefore, one cannot ascribe all the endemic corruption in Brazil exclusively to adherents of Marxism and the Workers’ Party (WP). As shown by Michael Farris, centuries before Marxism, corruption and greed in the Catholic clergy in England were something any WP adherent would envy. Even WP adherents, however, did not go so far as to burn at the stake the true followers of Jesus.
Nor is it a coincidence that all current scandals of WP corruption are happening in the biggest Catholic nation in the world. In many aspects, these are reminiscent of scandals exposed by Farris. As Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 3,000 years ago, there is nothing new under the sun.
As soon as England abolished the domination of a Catholic clergy that greedily controlled it and embraced the Protestant Reformation with its practice of Bible reading, the nation prospered intensely, becoming the British Empire. But the English openness to the Bible was not total. Where it was total, there was greater prosperity, and the United States, where the Bible was the main national book, became a much more important and powerful empire than the British Empire.
Thomas More, the killer who had a torture chamber in the basement of his house to extract confessions from his “heretical” victims, was eventually condemned and executed for political intrigues. The Catholic Church transformed him into a “saint” and “martyr.” He left this world with a trail of tortured and killed Protestants. The focus of his life was the Catholic Church, not obedience to God through the Bible.
William Tyndale, considered by Michael Farris as one of the forerunners of the U.S. religious freedom, was fiercely opposed by More and was condemned to die at the stake as a “heretic.” Tyndale left this world having never tortured and killed one single Catholic or religious dissenter. The focus of his life was Jesus and His Gospel.
This is the very example of Jesus’ apostles, who were known for preaching the Gospel with such great devotion that they were willing to die for it, not to murder in its name.
Ignorance of the Bible inevitably leads to widespread corruption and led to the Inquisition — a total and murderous censorship of the true followers of Jesus Christ.
An access to Bible reading is essential for the liberty of a people from the darkness of atheism and false religion. All of the early U.S. presidents were diligent Bible readers. Some read it in the original Greek and Hebrew. Others were also chairmen of Bible societies, whose mission was to facilitate access to and reading of the Bible and the evangelization of peoples.
The moral and spiritual decadence of England and the U.S. today is because, coincidently, those two nations abandoned, among their political leaderships and populations, the practice of Bible reading and obedience, whose access was afforded  to the English and Americans by Tyndale and others at a bloody price and by martyrdom.
